Scaia Garganega Chardonnay 2012

The fact that a great white wine from the Veneto region can be delicious and a great value may not come as a huge surprise to anyone who treasures the refreshing wines of this area. While we’d typically expect pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc or even some Prosecco to define this category, there’s always something different to be found from a growing region which doesn’t pigeon hole itself into any one grape or style.

For the second vintage in a row we’ve brought back Scaia’s blend of Garganega 50%, Trebbiano Soave 20%, Chardonnay 30% to the store, which once again offers a unique take on what a Northern Italian white wine can be. Offering up a bright bouquet of citrus fruits such as grapefruit, orange and pineapple, this wine is an aromatically gifted to say the least. Under its primary aromas, we also pick up some apple, peach and pear rounded out by a hint of fresh flowers.

Balance is key here with the feel being both crisp and supple. Ripe and round, this wine is food friendly yet can certainly stand on its own. This blend won’t be around long so if you’re still thinking about enjoying the last months of white wine season then this one is worth trying out for $15.
