Super Priced Tuscan: Fattoria Rodano

Rodano’s Poggialupi is made up of grapes sourced from the Chianti Classico Region but don’t let that fool you into believing this is just another Sangiovese. With a little help from merlot (about 10% actually) this Tuscan easily earns its Super Tuscan status for half the price of comparable juice.

The 2010 brings the best of both old and new worlds starting with a nose of dried cherry, plum, sweet tobacco and earth. On the palate this wine sends you to the new world with ripe red fruit, fine tannins, sweet oak and a luscious mouth-feel. The finish leaves you with the essence of Italy thanks to its extraordinary length and complexity.

The wine not only tastes like it should cost twice the $15 it asks, it even shows the maturity and grace of a wine that’s been cellared. Drink now and drink up.
